"Wash A Million Hands!" project started in 2010.
Here we report the results as of December 2010 out of the activities for 3 years.

Education for 1.2 million mothers

We are going ahead with the activities to make a opportunity for 1.2 million mothers in 40 districts who have under-5 years children to learn about handwashing using soap through a communication program or a personal interview by the end of 2010.

The activities of the handwashing ambassadors became fully in progress in 13,500 villages in 40 districts.

By the end of 2010, handwashing ambassadors were trained in 13,500 villages in 40 districts. They are playing a role in informing the village people about the handwashing campaign for the first time.

Supported for installing hundreds of thousands of the home handwashing equipments.
The handwashing rate has increased to 27%.

Hundreds of thousands of the home handwashing equipments "Tippy Tap" were installed next to the toilet in the target districts by the end of 2010. Its diffusion rate has increased from 22 % to 26 %.
354 handwashing tanks (60L) with stands and tubs were delivered and are used at 177 elementary schools in Gulu, Kitgum, Pader and Abim district.

Expand the handwashing campaign to estimated 3 million mothers by radio commercials.

27 radio stations have cooperated with each other to spread a commercial of handwashing. They broadcasted a spot 30 seconds-commercial, comments by disk jockeys and talk shows. They are especially focused on the "World's Handwashing Day" on October 15 and the preceding week when jingles, spot commercials and talk shows were broadcasted. A number of national radio stations have continuing these activities.
